Splendiforous

Some people are blessed with many talents aren't they? These amazing works by Matthew Cusick clearly demonstrate one such person.

Apart from his artistic creativity, imagination and skill - how about the patience of a saint! Again, a talent I'm severely lacking. The hours that have gone into these works must be staggering, but what a pay off. {click on the images to view in detail}

I hope you're all having a splendiforous weekend, and thanks heaps for dropping in this week!

Happy Mothers Day to all the mums out there, hope it's a lovely day.

Super special thanks this week go these awesome people...

Follow The Sun

Good morning, good morning. Slow start here this Sunday morning, but I guess that's what they're really for.
Last night it rained and rained and then rained some more. I was expecting it, you know, seeing how it's autumn here and all, but it was a little sad. No more summer, no more swimming.
So this little clip, the latest song by the brilliant Xavier Rudd, struck a chord this morning.

Hope everyone is having a brilliant weekend and thanks so much, as always, for your support of the Project this week.

And special thanks goes to the lovely....

Slow

Is there anything better than a lamb roast lunch on a Sunday? I think not. Hope you and yours are having a splendid time this Sunday and maybe have a slow roast brewing.

Thanks so much for stopping in this week, really thrilled that you have!

And special thanks to

Being Enveloped

I found these images really evocative of how I want the season to be turning. It has been a fabulous summer - cannot deny it. But it has been a very long and very hot one out here in the west.

I'm ready for the darkness to creep in along with some drizzle in the early afternoon and to spend a weekend enjoying the view being enveloped by fog. Call me crazy, but I am.

This Morning

Sorry I'm so late today. Event full weekend so far. A lovely long day trip to the country with some mates followed by an evening of eerie quiet, smoke and flashing lights. Coming home late from the country I found that the bush across the road from the Splendour had been on fire all afternoon. Road blocks were set up, and I had to ditch the car and walk home. I found my old border collie sitting by the pool watching down the drive waiting for me. Poor old fella, must have been quite an afternoon for him. There were fire trucks driving around till late in the night and every now and then you could hear a tree fall.

So it's been a slow morning, mostly pottering around Etsy, and trying to curb the buy now impulse. Internal chant something along the lines of {{must save for new roof, must save for new roof, must save for new roof}} on loop in my brain. But I thought I'd share a few of this morning's faves. Click on the images to go to the store.

Hope you're having a less event full weekend and possibly some serious relaxation or serious fun and games - whatever takes your fancy. Super special thanks this week goes to.......

Thanks Jo!

Colourful Life

I've been over at 20 x 200 checking out the latest and greatest. And some of the really cool things I found there were these prints from the photographer Eadweard Muybridge.

Back in his time Muybridge was renowned for his experimental photography that pushed the typical boundaries of the day. Today, I think his images still have a magical quality. The photographer was a genius of his time, but also led a very colourful life

How's life with you? Hope there's plenty of colour this weekend. Thanks so much for a lovely week of visits and treats, and extra special thanks to this lovely...

An Elixer

It's so sad that sweet sundays are swiftly replaced by manic mondays isn't it? I really need to learn to not have that thought until at least 7pm on Sundays, it's creeping into my mind closer to 7am these days, and it's distracting me.

Perhaps if we installed an elixer filled fountain like this one in the office, I'd be justified at wanting to head in early tomorrow.

Hope you get to hold on to your weekend with both hands, and keep monday-itis at bay for long enough to unwind and kick back.

Thanks for kicking back around here this week, it's been a pleasure to have you!

Satisfyingly Does

Well the weekend has rolled around once again, as it satisfyingly does. Hope you're all finding something Diverting to do, or something totally Zen to do, which ever takes your fancy.

No rhyme or reason behind this image, just thought it was gorgeous. That's OK, right?

Thanks so much for all the fun and games this week, hope you found one or two things that blipped your radar. And extra special thanks to these kids....

But For Now

How's the weekend going thus far? Hope it is sensational and you're getting to do everything you've been waiting all week for. This weekend at the Splendour mostly involves a few little must do's, and hopefully one or two would like to do's too.

Things are pretty slow during summer once the main requirements of the day are out of the way. Crazy plants that love the heat silently grow even crazier. Thongs are left by the back door and the house goes quiet, apart from the air conditioner.  All just waiting for the temperature and sun to drop just enough to head out to the pool.

A few things have evolved. Some new cushions just unpacked (still waiting for a proper home), a new light (mainly because it only requires a lampshade and not an electrician!), and a re-make of what was a weird office area off my bedroom which has been a dumping zone since we moved in. As I don't need a second office, and this room was en route to the en suite, I decided to turn it into a little dressing room space.

A chunk of time on the tools (yeah, just a screw driver really), and the most excruciatingly built in desk is gone. Making room to spread out some antique dressers in the space, and get excited about having a very girly spot in a very boy house. (Well, an all girl zone except for the little lamp with the yellow hat - funniest gift I've ever received!)

Hole filling and patch up painting and some more playing with things required - but for now I'm happy.

Speaking of happy - thanks so much to all the new people and the already loved (couldn't bear to call you old!) that have trotted through this week. It was a killer of a week. So glad to meet all the new peeps, and hope to see you round the joint regularly!

Super thanks goes to...

Find It

The calm and stillness of these stunning waterscapes is something I'm going to try and channel this weekend. Could be tricky, but I'm going to have a crack anyway.

What are your plans? Hope if you're trying for some calm, that you find it.

Hello

Hello, how's everyone's weekend rolling? Smoothly I hope.

Thought I'd quickly show you a little project I ticked off the never ending list. With the temperatures here up in the 40's for days (to be clear, that is centigrade btw!!) I've been indoors without any excuse to walk past little jobs like this waiting to be done.

First achievement was packing away the remnants of Christmas - so the tonne of baubles that have been living in those three little thrifted parats have been put away for another year. I know, not really a biggy in the achievement stakes, but I had to talk it up to convince myself to do it!

But the main achievement was taking one of my under $10 thrift store picture frames and converting it into something worth showing. This big frame had a very 80's collection of maroon and orange tulips, which has now bit the recycling bin. I ordered this great print from Society6 a while ago as it was perfect for this frame, and an image I loved. So, new white mat and some gloss white paint on a hot day later, and there's a lovely big addition to the entry hall of the Splendour.

Now, taking things a little further and really styling the hall up would be good, but I don't want to be labelled an over-achiever now do I? I think it would be a good spot for another parat that I bought recently, from the v. cool Lived In Coogee, which I currently have in the fireplace. And a new coat of paint for the table that I inherited from my great aunt would be a good thing too - colour suggestions?

So, are you ticking anything off your list this weekend? A blog related "tick off" for me has been to figure out how to set up a facebook 'page'. I had a Diversion account before, but it wasn't a page, and I didnt realise I could convert my account to a page... (Yes, I am really am that IT limited). Anyway after all that faffing, I found out shortly later that Facebook now wont allow blogs to feed automatically to Pages. WTF is with that?! Dumb stuff. So now it seems that everyone that liked me then, now likes me twice, and I have a useless Page on my hands. Too hard!

Anyway, thanks for listening to my waffle and thanks for stopping in this week!

And huge thanks to these cool people for some Diversionary link love....

Outdoorsy

So, how was every one's week? Brilliant, I hope. I had a lovely catch up with a pack of country mates. Sitting outside in the garden here at the Splendour, swimming and generally being ''outdoorsy".

Just getting ready really for Australia Day next week. One can never have too much training for that.

Hope you all have a super splendid weekend and thanks for all the hi's, hello's and words during the week. You're tops.

Bloody Oath

I'm tired. This time of year is relentless isn't it. Project deadlines, contracts to write, birthday parties, drinks with friends, lunches, presents. A lot to do. A lot of great stuff to do. And then the inane ephemera that really is boring, but always raises it's ugly head for attention, creeps in there too.

Well, I think it's time to relax. Bloody oath I do. And ephemera be warned, once I've decided to relax, nothing better get in my way.

Hope you're having a chance for a bit of relaxation this weekend, involving all of the best best of your fave things. Thanks so much for stopping in. Seriously, thank you.

And big huge thanks to the lovely...

Migrating

Guess what I've just ordered for the 60's Splendour???
Sadly no, not killer vintage steel chairs or a budgie smuggler wearing pool boy. Disappointing, I know.

But that swan had my name on it from the minute I saw it. Doubt she'll make it before Christmas, but you never know. I'm sure she's going to love migrating south.

Hope everyone is having a really lovely weekend, and many thanks to this lovely chick...

What If

I use Nearmap as part of work quite a lot, and there's nothing I love more than when there is an update to their images. I really like looking at the projects I'm working on and seeing their progression. But I also love looking at the 60's Splendour. Seeing the big old pool in the yard, surrounded by turf and the bushland across the road.

I was thinking today while floating around the pool - "man, what if there was a satellite going over right now!" So when I came inside to do a little online wandering I was instantly attracted to these great aerial photos by Bernhard Lang.  The colours and the action he's captured is wonderful.

I hope you're all having a sensational weekend, and thanks heaps for dropping in this week.

Super special thanks go to these special folk....
