Paint Them

What brilliant inspiration this renovation is to an owner of a slice of 60's splendour. The miles of painted white brick and the crazy paving floors are superb. I've been toying with crazy paving in the back yard seeing as the lack of precision will suit this house no end, and I won a cool door prize at an industry event last year and need to go collect a big whack of stone/granite/marble - whatever I choose.

But the eye candy I appreciate the most is seeing the timber framed picture windows painted out in white. I'm still doing the leave them natural/paint them white battle in my mind, so any image that reminds me that all will be well, whatever I decide, is appreciated!

Sneak In

As if the cold wet weekend didn't bring enough pain, I was sent this amazing home in my inbox - just to mess with my pool-bereavement-head.

Apart from the stunning garden and pool, I really love all of the treatments used here. The crazy paving style slate floors that flow from outside in.

And another slice of craziness is the tiled finish on the external wall. What a clever idea. {Click on the last image for a closer look). I've often thought I'd like to try and sneak in a tiled wall somewhere - internal or external. I love the way it's unexpected outside of the bathroom, it really is cool.

To Another

Following on from the white uncluttered look of yesterday, how about this stunner. It is the antithesis of yesterday's look, but isn't that the best part of being alive? Swinging from one extreme to another {and to another, and another}? Or perhaps that's just my Gemini sensibilities.

But seriously, couldn't pass up this place. The original flagstone floor, the early timber furniture, the stunning beams and brick work. It really is a slice of the good stuff.

I seriously love though the new clean white ceiling in the bedroom, sidling up to the expansive old beams. Really cool contrast.

Not Completely Lost

OK, so enough of the banging on with the white already. Good thing I'm a slightly ADD Gemini - or else we could have had a whole week of white.

Just to prove I'm not completely lost to the colour cause, take a gander at this place. The richness in each shade is so luscious. I really like the dusty mauve in the bathroom. Actually there's not much about that bathroom that doesn't appeal to me. The reclaimed timbers and the natural stone basin are sensational don't you think?

Simmer Over

This place is a near perfect recipe don't you think? Stone, timber, charcoal, navy, grey, white and mustard yellow. Folded gently and left to simmer over a slow heat.

The architecture is stunning, there's no escaping that. But the owners have not rested on those laurels alone. They've been pretty clever in their treatment of this building. Sticking to a simple palette right the way through unifies what could have been a dog's breakfast of singular impressive rooms. But with this approach the space is cohesive and all the more impressive for it.

One particular detail I like is how in the vaulted spaces the timber ceilings have been left natural, but in the more intimate spaces they've been painted white. A trick of the eye that makes even the more petite scaled rooms still seem expansive.

How About That

While we're on lights, how about that capiz pendant. Man that is gorgeous. But then, what isn't seriously gorgeous in this country home. The epitome of the modern barn.

Vaulted timber ceilings and stone clad fireplaces are all pretty conventional, but the way it has been pulled together with modern furnishings and fixtures to bring this look into today is pretty cool.

The Play List

I'm a massive fan of timber, love it loads. But when I really love it best is when it's teamed up with some design classics like this gorgeous home.

The play list reads like a who's who. The light airiness of the Bertoia in a heavy building, the steel Navy stools in the natural and white tone kitchen, and Tulips galore. So much loveliness, but in this space, doesn't even seem to border on pretension.

But I think my favourite detail of cutting edge design meets old, is the "I" beam frame that the lovely slipper tub is sitting on. Too good.
