Sharp Idea

I don't have a lot of Ikea in my house, a few bits here and there, mostly in the boys' bedrooms. It's not because I'm anti, just that I have way too much other stuff to need it.

But I do like seeing how people use it cleverly in their homes. This place is a case in point. Lots of Ikea pieces here mixed with some classic Eames, some cool wallpaper and personal touches. I particularly like what I think looks like Ikea kitchen units in the child's room, used to make a platform bed. Do you think that's what it is? That door-front profile looks familiar. If it is - that's a way sharp idea.

But my love-it-dearly detail of this place is the light shade over the dining table. Made of capiz it gives such a soft glow, but its nice to see it in a sharper, more mid-century-elliptical-bubble-lamp style than you expect to see capiz. Seriously good light.

Jewel In The Desert

How is this for a jewel in the desert?

This modern home has a touch of old style glamour, well more than a touch. I love the concrete block work around the perimeter of the pool deck, which is cleverly tucked under the eaves of the house.

But the slightly harder to miss glamour, the mega-watt gold shimmer, is something else isn't it. Reminds me of a pair of gold aviators.

Shiny Days and Birthdays

Well it's nearly that time of year again to indulge in all things shiny (I'm sure that's the unofficial purpose of NYE, and I'm sticking to it!), and these images are my kind of shiny. But before I get to that, there's another little celebration to acknowledge.

The Diversion Project turned 1 a couple of days ago, and in true third child form, I totally missed it! When this little project started all those days ago I would never have dreamed that it would turn into the blog it is today. (OK, well today, it is a little bit on the lonely side, but I have one more beach holiday location to get to and then I'm done. Promise)

Thanks to all for making this become something that is really so special to me, and I hope you've enjoyed the ride so far.

I trust everyone had a lovely Christmas and I wish you all a happy, healthy and inspiring year ahead!

Quantity And Scale

I've always had a very soft spot for mirror. Mirrored walls, mirrored splash backs, mirrored furniture. But I seem to be collecting a great deal of images lately with mirror used beautifully.

So, why stop now. This home applies it in quantity and scale that makes me green with envy.

The Jackpot

This home is the poster girl for how gorgeous a bit of white and shimmer can be. The matt white walls teamed with shiny shimmery accents, in the home wares, the light fittings, the mirror tiles on the wall - all add up to make one stunning dose of glamour.

Ground that with vintage timbers and earthy textiles, and in my book, you've hit the jackpot.

Grey And Shimmer

Love the feminine luxe look of this abode. This mauve, grey and shimmer mode is seriously one of my 2010 fave looks.

Hand Cut

The gloss that is everywhere in this house appeals to my love of all things shiny. The stunning fabrics in the bedroom and the incredible black basin are insanely gorgeous.

But the real object of my desire is the hand cut Moroccan tiles. I really love the colours and textures of these incredible tiles that I'm seeing around the web at the moment. Current wish list top five stuff.
