Epic Vast

 

When building on a plot with epic vast views, you need a house that will not only sit in those views quietly, but also make sense of them from within.

 

The scale of this house is perfect, as are the materials. It's no wall flower though, it clearly makes its mark on the landscape but in a very sympathetic way.

 

The windows are a great feature. All of a magnificent scale, but I like the way the windows in the living room are apertures, they give the feeling of enclosure and protectiveness - like looking out on the view from a protected bunker. But in the kitchen/dining space they almost disappear and give that feeling of openness that suits that use of space so much better. Clever house.

Partially and Predominantly

It seems to be timber week this week. And why not, there's so much grainy goodness to be had. Especially this place, so stunningly teamed up with vast planes of concrete and glass.

The views, both internal and external, are beautifully framed by this structure. But I think the most visually pleasing aspect is the vast stairs.

Straddled by a glass wall, partially inside and predominantly outside, the stairs are a thing of genius.

Would Expect

Now this is some really clever architecture. The frameless glass that counterpoints a solid concrete frame is such a cool detail I think.

The block like framework that runs down the middle of the building, from bedroom through the kitchen and into the living space, is made from pre cast and is such a great detail also.

Despite being concrete, the individual pieces are thinner than you would expect and as such have a very refined, finished look. Seriously good.

Packing A Punch

The design in this home struck me as incredibly strong and incredibly feminine all at the same time.

We know that those two things are not mutually exclusive right, but wow, it is impressive to see don't you think?

From the curated glass ware to the pendant in the dining room, everything is unabashedly feminine but definitely packing a punch. Bravo.

In Reflection

Rounding out a very busy week with some simple gorgeous beauty. The play of light on these pieces of crystal and glass, and the patterns shown in reflection, is just lovely.

This kind of calm perfection is a nice little breather for me. My day job is pretty intense at times, and sometimes it feels like sensory overload can be just around the next corner. How do you unwind and exhale?

Stylish Row

There is so much here that I love, from the clean grey + white lines, to the skins, textured wallpaper, and glass.

But that first image contains two things that are preoccupying my mind lately - animal prints + dining chairs. So to see them combined in a stylish row of Starck Mademoiselle's with the Dolce & Gabbana print, well, perfection.
