Ad Infinitum

 

Sorry for my absence last week, the week got away from me. This week is threatening to do the same, but let's give it a go.

 

In my attempt to catch my breath this weekend I did a little zen like surfing for beautiful spaces and this one caught my eye. I've always had a thing for loft spaces and converted industrial spaces. One of my first places I lived in after moving out of home was an old shop in a teeny tiny little country town. It was bliss. The whole shop front, with double bay windows, was my living area. I kept potted trees and moved the furniture around ad infinitum.

 

This cozy big space brought back memories of that home with its plethora of vintage. A home after my own heart.

Epic Vast

 

When building on a plot with epic vast views, you need a house that will not only sit in those views quietly, but also make sense of them from within.

 

The scale of this house is perfect, as are the materials. It's no wall flower though, it clearly makes its mark on the landscape but in a very sympathetic way.

 

The windows are a great feature. All of a magnificent scale, but I like the way the windows in the living room are apertures, they give the feeling of enclosure and protectiveness - like looking out on the view from a protected bunker. But in the kitchen/dining space they almost disappear and give that feeling of openness that suits that use of space so much better. Clever house.

Gone For It

 

This home had some very cool details that I loved. First off, that leather armchair - I've been scouring the second hand sites looking for one exactly like that. Wish I could copy and paste it here at the Splendour.

 

The partition between the bed and the dressing area in the bedroom is such a great idea. It doesn't close in the space like a stud wall would, but allows the bedroom space to be a restful space without all that clutter.

 

Loving the little shelf straddling the bath, it reminds me of this one I've posted before. I just need the bath to be installed as part of our renovations, and I'm installing one of these with a glass of wine the first night!

 

And then I also think the scale of that art work in the living room is sensational. With enormously high ceilings like this, you can cut loose with hte scale of art. And I love how they've gone for it.

 

Wonder if they want a house sitter?

Instantly Relaxed

 

This stunning vaulted home has so many features I love. The light and space and restricted palette really do it for me. The simplicity in this approach is perfect, makes a home instantly relaxed I think.

 

I love the texture that is still here that prevents a simple look from being cold. The best part for me is the painted brick walls in the kitchen. I've always been a soft touch for a bit of white painted brick!

More Than Twice

 

Maybe it's the moulding, maybe the marble fireplace, the beautiful scale of the rooms, or the v. cool furnishings....can't put my finger on it exactly, but this home made me look more than twice.

Lovely Blend

The architectural details in this home are sublime don't you think. The tall french doors, genteel lead light glass, mouldings galore - all so beautiful.

But it's nice to see some modern elements in the mix too. But these have been done in a gentle manner too, so there is no competition. Just a lovely blend.

Nearly Impossible

I'm a sucker for a good home visit. The genuine goodness that a person's home has evolved over time is nearly impossible to replicate.

The scale of these rooms made me seriously jealous. But I also loved all the great vintage style, there's some really fab pieces here don't you think?
