Snugness

The contrast in loft spaces between cavernous and snug is what makes or breaks them I think. The open scale of the double height rooms provides a feeling that isn't achieved in most homes.

But human nature as it is, typically we feel a need for snugness and to be enclosed and protected in our homes. Making the role of a bedroom or a reading room even more important don't you think?

I so agree...I adore little snugs...and the images you chose are so lovely:) The whole beauty of those lofts is that they have the abillity to transform and adapt!

When I first saw this post Jules I thought it said smugness (clearly I need new glasses)! But that would have been entirely appropriate. I'd be feeling mightily smug if I had spaces like these!

Completely agree...thinking you "nailed" this one! And this loft is breathtaking.

I agree, I think the large open spaces are so fantastic and give you that free feeling, but we all crave a little of the cozy, slightly enclosed feeling of a 'snug' space...
Love high ceilings!!

Exposed beams always get me! Someday I will have some! No better way to cozy up a place.

I usually have no patience with lofts, as they are too deliberately and consciously industrial, but this one is beautiful with its designated areas and the sweep of the spaces between them. And that perfect painting.

Love this loft but find it a crime that they put in floors like these..
