Black Out

I've been contemplating lately about painting a wall in my bedroom black. It's a big change for me, but what could go wrong?

It's only paint, and would only take ten coats of under coat to get rid of it if I hate it right?

I would only do it if you are a vampire.

Seriously, I actually like dark cave like bedrooms but you might be better off with a dark patterned wallpaper on one wall, then if you don't like it it is much easier to get rid of! xo

It works nicely in the ratio of black to white of your images here, providing focus rather than dominance.

Interesting idea. Do you have a lot of natural light? Can I ask if you've considered using a very dark charcoal - one that has a warm tone to it?

If you can get Dulux over in Australia they do a trade colour OONN 07/000 (it's almost black but has *just* a touch of warmth). In my bathroom (and soon, my bedroom, too) I've got OONN 13/000 which is one shade up from that and it's so atmospheric - it looks great against white bedlinen and these copper wall mounted fairy lights that I recently bought. I'll post a photo, soon.

Sorry, I realise that this is completely unsolicited. (I can't help myself...)

I have been toying with a charcoal dining room myself for a bit now. I am so happy you posted these images!

Hey Jules...I painted my bedroom wall black (Dulux Black..the other walls are white... and I love it to bits...and don't think I'll tire of it any time soon!

I like the idea but every other wall would have to be really bright white and maybe a little yellow! I love those colors together. What about even a dark blue black? I wish I could think of the name but it is pretty! Good luck, love to see it, if you do it!

loving the images, but what's with the rocking chairs at the dining table, how would that work? imagine trying to feed a group of kids around that!!

Go for it! I love a good mix of black & white!

I was going to paint one of my bedroom walls black, but the only solid wall in my bedroom will be covered with 6 metres of wardrobe doors, so now I am going to do those in a high-gloss black polyurethane finish... still black but highly reflective because the room doesn't get a lot of natural light.

Go on - just do it! If you hate it you can always paint it out. My opinion - I think it would look fabulous. Hope you're having a lovely weekend.

I have to say the piccies look lovely but I guess I will be the voice of reason amongst the other 'go-for-its' in that 'oooh, scary'. but if you can get past that then, yes, the contrast would be great. if you do, show the pics. you might inspire me!! (-:

A friend of mine recently painted a room black & i have to say before I saw it I was sceptical - it looks spectacular! The mouldings, picture rails & door frames are all white & she has hung a chandelier. Go for I say.
