Clever With Colour

This home has some fabulous applications of colour on it's neutral background. But I think the thing that grabbed me most was the charcoal treatment of the ceiling beams. I've seen many a home with outdated mission brown beams tricked up by painting the whole shell white.

I love though how they've kept them as a feature here, but updated them to a modern grey. Then with the addition of cool stuff and amazing colour, the whole place has become something much more. V. clever.

I love that first pic Jules, the beams look fantastic. I have very similar ceilings here at home, and after the kitchen reno the ugly pine ceiling looks even uglier! I'm seriously considering these dark beams instead of white. Thanks for giving me food for thought! K xx

Love those beams! And the colour ... well, what can I say?

I have beams like that painted an even worse colour than mission brown (oh yes there is one!). And I've been wondering whether I should paint the living room white because I have quite a lot of colourful furniture 'n stuff. I think you've just made up my mind for me...thank you!

apparently it's going to be totally freezing tomorrow, so will do my best to follow your instructions, I may end up an icicle.

I really adore when there is a hint of colour in the room but not to much in your face and that is exactly what they did...It is a perfect balance of colour! I really enjoy the palette and the lamp and wallpaper is stunning :)

Yes, you're right, the use of grey on those beams is pretty inspired - I may have been too nervous to go there, but not any more...

You post such great images, regularly. How do you do it?!

Oh my gosh, I love that bedroom! I really want to do something like that, a fabric covered panel, I think it would be so cool! Great post, Jules!

Love that peacock lamp. I saw a peacock this morning on my way to work. He was hanging out by a shop door right in the middle of the city. True story.

Adore the textile hanging in the bedroom and the lamp. You seriously have impeccable taste, btw.

I love everything you post!
