Devil In The Details

These images purvey that old edict, the devil is in the details. Details can equally be at home in a french country style look like this or a classic look or contemporary. To my way of thinking it's the quality of the detail that makes it work or not.

Natural Edge

This country home has that natural edge about it. Endemic stone and hardwoods are two key ingredients that really set a country house away from the pack I think, and they've been used brilliantly here.

It has an internationalist feel to it to my eye. Where do you think it is?

Detail and Gloss

A blanket of white coated in shiny detail and gloss finishes is like a little piece of nirvana to me. The sexy silver details at every turn, the glass kitchen bench, the gloss panels in the living room, are just the best application of glamour you could ask for.

I seriously can not get past that kitchen though. I like it when the struggle between form and function in a utilitarian room errs just a smidge on the side of form.

Another favourite morsel is the ball chain detail on the slip covered chair. Pure brilliance.

A Day Or Two

Gloss floors with fur skin rugs and hides are a fabulous contrast that is picked up so well in these images, and a look that I really love.

The other common thread here is an amazing resemblance to my own home - miles of necklaces and jewellery tucked away in all sorts of places. I usually go for big vases or compote dishes holding collections by colour (i swear it makes mornings so much easier!), but the door handles are a storage facility I've yet to take advantage of. But give me a day or two, and that can easily change.

Ahead Of The Programme

That sofa needs to come live with me. Seriously. That would be the perfect piece for the monster double story height family room I keep dreaming about. So in my usual planning style, I need to buy the furniture first. Usually about two years ahead of the programme.

And what the heck, that amazing kitchen can come too and bring some art with it.

Weekend Safari

Whilst I sit here in the Aussie winter, freezing my appendages off, these images are tempting me to warmer climes.

This gorgeous lodge in South Africa looks like a perfect winter retreat. I've never been to South Africa, but have lodged it in Zimbabwe a few years back and it was an amazing experience. Needless to say, the wildlife was the best part of the trip, but the G&T's by the pool were nothing to sneeze at either!

Just Because...

...this is the coolest image I've seen today. I'm busy here seeking out some inspiration for another week filled with Diversions and this really made me grin. Hope it does you too.

Silver Linings

I'm so touched by that silver cloud, I can hardly explain.

Big wishes and positive energy for silver linings to my lovely blog friend Shelley from Femme De Montmarte who is going through a really gut wrenching awful time right now.

Please keep Shelley and her husband and family in your thoughts, and send them out some rays of silver. Thanks
